More Talking points:
The SF Board of Supervisors is trying to rush through this law TODAY. Some Supervisors don’t yet understand how this will hurt their constituents.
1) Seriously ill patients are not able to leave their homes. Imagine getting fined $1k for every day you take an OTC or Rx medication from the privacy of your home.
2) We are in a pandemic and most people are at home A LOT right now. We want them to stay home. Let's not force them to visit friends with standalone houses in order to consume cannabis.
3) This law is a step backward: it rolls back legalization for San Franciscans, 57% of whom supported Proposition 64 in 2016 (almost 8 million people).
4) Cannabis is NOT tobacco. They are VERY DIFFERENT plants and industries. Public policy should not conflate them.
5) We don’t want lawmakers exempting themselves from the rules that govern their behavior. It’s never ok to use *emergency measures* to rush non-urgent legislation through and/or avoid public scrutiny. The public process exists for good reason.
6) This law is classist and discriminatory.
What we want:
[Preferred] 1) Re-refer this legislation to Committee. Hear from constituents who understand and can help fix its fundamental flaws.
2) At a minimum, *exempt all cannabis use* from the legislation. Treating cannabis like tobacco is fact-ignorant public policy.
